Just in time for a pivotal week, the Sobrato softball team rebounded from its first loss in Santa Teresa Division play with a 10-4 victory over visiting Branham on Friday.
The Bulldogs were led by Marissa Heffernan, who went doubled twice and drove in two runs, and Heather Johnson who went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs.
Samantha Torres added a double and pitched seven steady innings. The freshman allowed two earned runs on nine hits and one walk, and collected a strikeout.
The Bulldogs (9-1, 12-4) can add to their winningest season in program history in a big way this week, as second-place Prospect and third-place Evergreen Valley visit Sobrato at 4 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
Sobrato had an eight-game win streak snapped last Wednesday in a 6-5 loss to Lincoln.
- Live Oak continued to surge Friday with a 7-6 victory over Leigh that pulled the teams into a tie for second in the Mount Hamilton Division.
Katie Obbema collected three hits, including a home run, and as many RBIs and pitched a complete game, as Live Oak (13-7, 7-3) all but clinched a berth in the Central Coast Section playoffs.
Baseball
Sobrato’s postseason hopes took another hit Friday with a 3-1 loss to visiting Leigh.
Eric Guill-Perez supplied a double and a single for the Bulldogs (8-15, 6-11), who have lost three of their last four and remain two games out of the fourth and final playoff spot in the Mount Hamilton Division.
Boys golf
Live Oak and Sobrato open play in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Tournament at 1 p.m. today at Coyote Creek Golf Club.
