Pet Friends recently held their fourth annual Wag’n’Walk event at the Graniterock Southside quarry. Despite the forecast of near 100 degree temperatures, the enthusiastic participants showed up to make it another successful event. Thanks to the Graniterock volunteers, the course and registration booths were ready to go when the Friends of Pet Friends volunteers showed up at 7:30 am. With over 60 on-line pre-registrations, and a flood of same-day registrations, it looked to be another well-attended event to benefit the cats and dogs at Pet Friends.

At 9:00 am, the competitive 5k event started. Five minutes later, the 2 and 4 legged runners and walkers had their start.

Following the event, the participants enjoyed an Open House hosted by Graniterock, with BBQ hot dogs, drinks, and strawberries from Uesugi Farms. Thank you to all who joined us at the Graniterock Southside quarry- sponsors, volunteers, runners, walkers, and their canine companions. Be sure to mark your calendars for next years’ Wag’n’Walk!

Congratulations to the competetive runners:

1st place: Lanette Vasquez #183 25:13

2nd place: Mike Null #188 25:52

3rd place: Mark Vivian #184 27:14

And thank you to all participants with and without dogs who make this the fun event it is.

In closing, I’d like to add that Pet Friends, and many other non-profit groups and communities has lost a great friend. The following weekend, Bruce Woolpert,CEO of Graniterock, lost his life in a boating accident. He and his Graniterock company have been a supporter of local charities and communities. Pet Friends offers their sympathy and condolences to his family and friends for their loss. He will be missed by many.
