Three weeks after the Garlic Festival reported $18,000 in cash missing from their ticket booth, the alleged embezzlement continues to be actively investigated by Gilroy Police.

Gilroy Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao would not offer any information regarding the investigation, including whether or not a suspect in the theft has been named.

Police believe the cash was stolen by someone working behind a ticket booth during open hours of the Garlic Festival the last weekend in July.

Garlic Festival staff have been even more tight-lipped than police on the incident, only offering one public statement since the incident was reported on Aug. 3, after festival staff audited their profits.

Police have said that the theft is not connected to the 1,000 tickets that were stolen from the festival’s association prior to the event.
