Morgan Hill police have identified a suspect in the string of seven burglaries that occurred between mid December and early January in southwest Morgan Hill. Police are looking for Jose Steven Torres, 21 of Morgan Hill who was identified by multiple witnesses as being in the immediate area as the burglaries. A fingerprint lifted from the scene of one of crimes was positively matched to Torres, police said.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office filed charges against Torres for one count of burglary and one count of attempted burglary and issued a $50,000 arrest warrant. He is described as 5-feet, 7-inches tall, 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a heavy New York accent and his arms and hands are completely tattooed. Morgan Hill police have attempted to locate Torres at his residence and the homes of his acquaintances. Torres is aware he is wanted and will flee, police said.
Police remind residents to secure their homes and make sure all doors, windows and sliding doors are locked when they are away, even for short periods of time.
