Red Phone

“Dear Red Phone, the southbound bus stop at Dunne Avenue and Monterey Road (near Ross) needs a trash can. It is a very busy stop and there is always trash on the ground. Anything you can do to help would be great. Thanks.”

Red Phone: Dear Trashed, Red Phone contacted Brandi Childress, spokesperson for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, who said the agency is working on a solution to provide a trash can at this location.

“It’s unfortunate to see that even the small business 100 feet away from the bus stop that has trash receptacles still has litter on the ground,” Childress said. “People should take more pride in their community.”

The VTA partners with our bus shelter vendor, cities and surrounding businesses to maintain more than 3,700 bus stops throughout Santa Clara County. VTA also partners with individuals, civic organizations, private companies, schools, as well as church groups in our Adopt-A-Stop Program. Volunteers agree to keep their designated bus stop clean by picking up litter, reporting damage and generally keeping the area around the stop free of debris and unsightly clutter. Volunteers also agree to call VTA to inform us of graffiti or other concerns with their adopted stop.

Childress said anyone interested can join the Adopt-A-Stop Program and wanted to let readers know that they can call VTA Customer Service at (408) 321-2300 to report issues at their bus stops.  “And thank you for bringing the litter problem at Dunne and Monterey to our attention,” she said.

Good caller, hope that helps.

Friday’s response neglected web site

“Red Phone, in a recent issue you printed a response from Sophia M. Hitti on how to opt out of getting phone books, but neglected to provide the web site. What is it?

Red Phone: Dear Opt Out, you are correct, and Red Phone regrets the error. Sophia M. Hitti, senior account executive with Fleishman-Hillard, one of the world’s largest public relations agencies, said the Yellow Pages industry maintains a web site that allows consumers nationwide to tailor print deliveries to their home.

The web site – www.yellowpagesoptout.com – offers:

– A way for consumers to stop delivery of one, several or all directories.

– Images of directory covers and delivery schedules, making it easy for consumers to identify which to include in any opt-out request.

– Email confirmation.

– Privacy as consumers’ personal information is used for the sole purpose of optimizing their Yellow Pages experience and will never be sold.

Hope that helps, good caller.
