SPORTS SHORTS: LOHS, SHS taking part in Dig Pink girls volleyball event Saturday

Division girls basketball.
Live Oak outscored the Royals 14-4 in the third quarter after
trailing by 17-11 at halftime. Danielle Horning and Alex Balala
chipped in six points, and Anisha Patel and Emily Thomson five for
the Acorns (5-12, 2-5).

Rochelle had nine points to lead Overfelt and Beverly Field scored seven.

  • Jessica Westall scored 19 points, and Jordan Smith had 17 and hit three 3-pointers in Sobrato’s 59-47 loss at Leland on Thursday.

The Bulldogs (4-13, 1-6) trailed 14-2 after the first quarter but kept pace with the Chargers through the final three.

Boys basketball

The Oakwood Hawks continued their winnings ways with an exciting 45-42 victory over Anzar on Thursday.

Brett Hall had a game-high 23 points, seven steals and six rebounds for Oakwood, Harsh Sikka added 10 points, and six rebounds, and John Angulo had six points.

Great contributions were made as well by Ryan Solomon, Amarjot Thind and Nikhail Bata. Justin Mortensen blocked several shots in the fourth quarter, also for the Hawks.

Boys soccer

Live Oak tied Evergreen Valley 2-2 on Thursday with two goals by Ben Hartl.

The Acorns (5-2-4, 2-2-2) gained a point on second-place Oak Grove in the Santa Teresa Division.

  • Sobrato made things interesting against reigning Division II section champ Willow Glen but fell 2-1 on Thursday in San Jose.

The Rams scored once in both halves to remain unbeaten.

Sobrato dropped to 1-8-2 and 0-5-1 in the Mount Hamilton Division.
