Morgan Hill will awake from its turkey induced slumber just in time to start celebrating the winter holidays with the downtown holiday parade and tree lighting Saturday, Dec. 1.

The annual event sponsored by the Morgan Hill Kiwanis Club kicks off the holiday season each year with an evening of entertainment, bright lights, Santa Claus and good spirits.

The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. and proceed south on Monterey Road in downtown Morgan Hill. The procession will end at the Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road, where Mayor Steve Tate will conduct the holiday tree lighting at 6:30 p.m.

A full lineup of entertainment is scheduled as well, with the Morgan Hill children’s choir singing holiday songs during the tree lighting, and Lana’s Dance troupe performing at the CCC amphitheater.

And, of course, Santa Claus will visit with local children to hear their Christmas wish lists aboard his magic ship in the CCC courtyard after the tree lighting.

The annual Morgan Hill holiday parade is in its 21st year.

More than 30 entries made up last year’s holiday parade route, with local schools, military personnel, public safety agencies, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, marching bands, sports teams and local organizations lining up to ring in the holiday cheer.
