The Poppy Jasper International Short Film Fest begins Friday, Nov. 8 and will be playing films on two screens at the Granada Theater in downtown Morgan Hill.

Show times are now solidified for free special holiday screenings of two Christmas classics at the Granada Theater in downtown Morgan Hill.

On Friday, Dec. 7, “The Polar Express” will screen at 4:30 p.m.; and “The Santa Clause” will show at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, each film will screen twice. “The Polar Express” will play at 11:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.; and “The Santa Clause” will play at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Tickets will be handed out 30 minutes before each showing on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating is limited.

Admission to the shows is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item, or an unwrapped toy that will be donated to less fortunate families for the holidays. The items will be donated to South County social services agency Community Solutions, Reach Out in Morgan Hill and St. Joseph’s Family Center in Gilroy.

Popcorn, candy, soda and water will be available at the theater for purchase.

The special, one-weekend holiday movie event at the downtown landmark venue is organized by the Morgan Hill Downtown Association and various sponsors.

The Granda Theater, which has been vacant and mostly unused since 2003, was purchased by the former Morgan Hill Redevelopment Agency in 2008. It is now owned by the Morgan Hill Economic Development Corporation, who has recently allowed local groups such as the Poppy Jasper Film Festival and the MHDA to use it for temporary special events.

The MHDA is also seeking volunteers for the holiday movie event. For more information visit www.morganhilldowntown.org.

The Granada Theater is located at 17440 Monterey Rd., in the middle of downtown Morgan Hill.
