Sobrato’s Skyler King, and Live Oak’s Nikki Weber and Derek Satterlee have been selected to the Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Game, as announced Friday by the game’s media relations manager, Mike Carrozzo.
The locals will play for the South All-Stars under Independence coach Norm Brown, a Morgan Hill resident who formerly coached at Sobrato.
Presented by the Rotary Club of Almaden Valley, the 38th Annual Silicon Valley Youth Classic is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 18 at San Jose State’s Spartan Stadium.
It will be King’s first and only game as a senior. The 5-foot, 11-inch, 255-pound center/nose guard was ruled ineligible by the Central Coast Section for the 2011 season because he fulfilled enough credits to be considered a senior during his junior year at SHS. King attended San Benito High School as a freshman in 2007-08 and was home-schooled the following year. He enrolled at Sobrato in fall 2009 but lost a year of eligibility.
King made the All-Santa Teresa Division first-team defense as a junior and was a second-team All-West Valley Division offensive lineman as a sophomore. This fall, he practiced with the scout team and acted as an assistant coach, while the Bulldogs went 7-4 and won their first Santa Teresa Division championship.
Weber (6 feet 1, 230 pounds) had an outstanding 2011 season, earning first-team All-Mount Hamilton Division at linebacker with a league-best 130 tackles, good for fifth in the section. He also caught five passes for 71 yards at tight end and slot receiver and carried 12 times for 54 yards.
Satterlee (6 feet 2, 240 pounds) was second-team all-league as a defensive lineman. He had 38 tackles and recovered a fumble.
Also from Morgan Hill, Valley Christian’s Cameron Weirhauser (6 feet 2, 188 pounds) will play for the South after making the All-West Catholic Athletic League second team as an offensive lineman. He helped the Warriors (6-6, 4-3) place fourth in league and reach the CCS Division III semifinals.
Brown’s staff will include his brother, Dan, who coached with him at Sobrato and is now defensive coordinator at Wilcox.
The South has won the past two Wedemeyer games, including a 24-13 victory over the North in 2011.
