Morgan Hill – A 31-year-old man escaped with broken bones and cuts and scrapes after he was hit by a car Thursday afternoon as he was crossing Monterey Road on his bicycle.

Pasqual Moreno, of Morgan Hill, was riding his bike through the crosswalk at Monterey Road and Central Avenue at Britton Middle school at approximately 6:35pm; a car in the number-two lane stopped to let him cross.

But apparently Dong Yoo, 44, a Morgan Hill woman, didn’t realize the car in the lane next to her had stopped, or why, according to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. Joe Sampson.

Yoo, who was driving a silver Buick, “just kept going,” Sampson said.

“She hits him, and he flies up, his head hits the windshield, and he rolls off the side of the car.”

Moreno’s head was cut, and he broke his shoulder, arm or collarbone, Sampson said.

“(Yoo) was traveling approximately 25-35 mph; fortunately, she was going slow,” he added.

Due to his head injury, Moreno was transported by LifeFlight to Valley Medical Center. He was released Friday afternoon and “seems to be doing well,” Sampson said.

Yoo has not been charged in the incident; MHPD Officer Steve Pennington is working on the case and will likely issue a citation for failure to exercise due care to pedestrians to Yoo, according to Sampson.

The fine for that is $35 before court fees. Yoo could also be responsible for Moreno’s medical bills.
