The South Valley Bucks registered their highest point total of the season and soundly defeated Pleasanton 50-20 on Friday in a Bay-South league rugby match in Dublin.
Scoring early and often, the Bucks dismantled Pleasanton, as six South Valley players combined for eight tries.
Fullback Cameron Weirhauser, a Valley Christian senior, led the way with three tries in the first half, helping the Bucks forge a 33-5 halftime lead. Also scoring first-half tries were Live Oak seniors Mitch Marcum and Eddie Valencia. Live Oak sophomore Cumorah Saulala added four conversions.
The second half saw the host Cavaliers pick up their game, scoring two quick tries to close the gap to 33-15. The teams traded tries, with Sobrato junior Vince Fanua scoring for the Bucks, and Saulala converting to give South Valley a comfortable 40-20 lead with 15 minutes to play.
South Valley (6-4, 2-2) continued to pressure offensively and tightened up on defense, shutting out the Cavaliers the rest of the way and adding two more unconverted tries, one apiece by Sobrato senior Nick Kavanaugh and Live Oak junior Lucas Reid.
The Bucks will play a nonleague match against Los Gatos at 7 p.m. Friday at the Outdoor Sports Center.
