Dear Editor,
It’s ironic to see Republican Congressman Richard Pombo try to take credit for the alternate fuel incentives in last year’s energy bill. When the bill was passed by the House, it contained only about $500 million in tax breaks for alternate energy sources, out of $8 billion that went mainly to the oil, gas, coal, and utility industries that fund Pombo’s campaigns.
Thanks to responsible members of the Senate the final bill provided $1.3
billion for alternate technologies — still a drop in the bucket considering
our desperate need to break free from dependence on fossil fuels.
Democratic candidate Jerry McNerney has a serious plan to develop a sustainable energy industry in this country. I’d pay a lot to see a Pombo-McNerney debate on energy policy.
