In a much-needed match for both Live Oak and Sobrato, Tuesday’s rivalry match turned into triumph for the Bulldogs as they try to sneak into the playoffs in the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mount Hamilton Division.

The Bulldogs defeated Live Oak on the road Tuesday, to improve to 7-6 inside the BVAL with one match left to play.

The loss sends the Acorns to 5-8 in division play and into sixth place.

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs won the first set 25-15, before Live Oak won it’s only set 25-13.

The Bulldogs, though, closed the win with consecutive 25-21 victories.

Sobrato’s regular season ends Thursday when they host Evergreen Valley at 6 p.m. The Acorns travel to Westmont at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Cross country

Behind a second-place finish from senior Ryan Corvese (15:17) the Sobrato boys cross-country team took sixth place at Monday’s BVAL championship to advance as a team to Nov. 10 Central Coast Section championship at Toro Park in Salinas.

Sobrato finished with three runners inside the top 37 spots to advance to next week’s section finals. Corvese led the team, placing less than 10 seconds behind first-place winner Richard Ho.

Sobrato junior Cody Hulme (17:24) took 27th place for the Bulldogs’ second-best time. Freshman Nolan Dozier (17:24) placed 39th for the Bulldogs.

The Live Oak boys team finished with two runners in the top 40 to take 13th overall in the BVAL. Kalum Bergstrom (16:46) led the way for the Acorns, finishing in 15th place.

Eddie King (17:23, 38th place) and Milan Leruyet (18:15, 66th place) rounded out the Acorns best times.

On the girls side, only one Morgan Hill runner finished inside the top 40. Live Oak’s Shannon Hoyle helped the Acorn team finish in 15th place, running a time of 21:41, good for 37th place.

Teammates Sabrina Rice (22:26, 61st), Amber Thomas (22:38, 64th), Fayth Lyon (22:41, 65th) all placed inside the top 70 finishers.

Sobrato’s Cynia Sapp (22:43, 66th) finished with the best time for the Bulldogs. Overall, Sobrato finished in 21st place as a squad. Moria Foster (25:31, 134th) and Jessica Crane (26:45, 141st) rounded out the Bulldogs’ top runners.
