A 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of molesting at least six females age 16 and younger had a plea hearing today in the South County Morgan Hill Courthouse.
Nothing significant happened during the hearing, according to Deputy District Attorney Cody Jones. Hearings up to this point “were to ensure that all the discovery had been provided by both sides,” she explained. “Now we have an opportunity to sit down and have a meaningful discussion about the case.”
The next meeting will take place Nov. 8 during an off-the-record discussion between Jones, Camacho’s defense attorney and the judge assigned to the case.
“It doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll make offers or resolve the case; it’s just a step in deciding what the defense wants to do,” said Jones.
Camacho is no longer in custody and is out on a $542,000 bail, according to Jones. She does not know how long Camacho has been out on bail.
On April 19, a 14-year-old girl reported to police that she had been involved in a consensual sexual relationship with Andrew Camacho, 19 of Morgan Hill, according to Morgan Hill police Sgt. Troy Hoefling.
During the investigation that followed, police found that Camacho had also been involved in consensual sexual relationships with six other females between the ages of 14 and 16, Hoefling said.
Police arrested Camacho at his home in Morgan Hill April 26. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office charged him with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, six counts of annoying or molesting a child and one count of oral copulation on a minor, Hoefling said.
Anyone with information regarding this incident, or who thinks they might be a victim of Camacho’s can contact Morgan Hill police at (408) 779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867.
