Seven teenagers were cited and released to their parents early Monday morning after allegedly trying to take a vending machine at Live Oak High School out onto the football field, according to Morgan Hill Police Cmdr. Joe Sampson.

The male teens, ages 15-17, were cited for alleged vandalism, burglary and trespassing.

Their attempted prank was foiled when three of them allegedly entered the school library and computer lab and set off the alarm at approximately 3am.

Four of them left the school, and MHPD Cpl. Ray Ramos, going to check on the alarm, saw their car coming from the direction of the school and stopped them.

Sampson said Ramos asked the teens where they came from, what they had been doing, and the teens told him of their prank gone wrong. They also gave him the names of the other teens, and officers went to their homes to issue citations.

Sampson said it was not clear how the three youths entered the library, as there were no windows broken and no sign of forced entry. He said it’s possible the door was left ajar.

There was no damage to the school, he said, but the vending machine may have been damaged slightly as it was dragged from its location.
