Coming off its loss to Willow Glen on Wednesday, the Live Oak boys water polo team needed a good weekend at their Polofest tournament. After finishing 3-1, the Acorns did just that.
Behind five goals from David Molyneux, Live Oak opened the tournament Friday with a 13-3 win over Evergreen Valley.
Later Friday, the Acorns defeated Harker 9-3. Goalie Nick Hofmann finished with 23 saves, as the Live Oak defense controlled the game. Alex DellaMaggorie led the team on offense with a pair of goals.
On Saturday, the Acorns success continued with a 16-3 victory over Harbor HIgh. Moleynuex, Kevin Nielson, Brandon Rossi and Della Maggorie all scored for Live Oak in the win.
The Acorns ended the tournament with their only loss, falling 9-8 to San Diego’s Country Day High School. Live Oak, which was down 7-3 early in the contest, came back with four goals in the third quarter to tie the game. In the fourth, Live Oak took the lead with a goal from Kyle Muir.
Country Day won with a goal with less than two seconds left on the clock.
