The Morgan Hill Gymnastics Team is made-up of 14 boys ranging from level 4 (entry level competition) up through level 10. After level 10, the boys can enter the “elite” division which is comparable to collegiate level gymnastics.

There are six events/excercises: Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, High Bar, Parallel Bars, and Vault.

Each boy competes in every event and is scored on a 10 point system. At the end of each event, scores are tallied and gymnasts receive medals/trophies for finishing in the top five per event.

In addition to a score on each event/exercise, every gymnast is given a ‘total score’; a combined total for all six events.

The gymnast with the highest combined score (per skill level) wins the prestigious “best all around” medal.

Finally, after the individual awards are handed-out, each event ends with the “Team” medals.

Basically, judges take the top three scores per event per team. If a team has six gymnasts competing in the same level, the top three scores per event go into the ‘team’ score. The team with the highest combined score wins the “Best Team Award”.

One of dominant boys programs in Northern California (arguably the state) is in Morgan Hill.

At the prestigious Santa Cruz Surf Classic, held on Jan. 14-15, Morgan Hill had three gymnasts take 1st all around, another took a 2nd all around, and two others took 3rd. Our level 4 boys and level 5 boys each captured 2nd place in the team results.

The MH boys took 2nd in the Team Competition a few weeks ago at a very big meet in Bakersfield. This particular competition, which featured the best programs in Southern California, was a great barometer of where the team stands state-wide.
