The Spirit of Morgan Hill Competitive summer season is in full swing with four teams out representing Morgan Hill throughout the Bay Area.
Three teams are halfway through the summer season and prepping for the Nor Cal Championships this coming weekend.
The 10-and-under Spirit have played in three tournaments and this past weekend at the Bagby Classic took second place. With strong pitching from Sami Evans, Nicole Bonino and Reyna Peoples, great defense from Ashley Church, Sydney Bell, Alexa Galocy, Kylie Plant, Rachel Salem and Madi Burrington and solid offense from Cassie Church and Selena Muniz, it was all around a team effort.
The 12s have also played in three tournaments, and this past weekend they had a 4-2 to place second. A 2-1 Saturday led into Sunday and after winning their first game on Sunday 15-3 over Sunnyvale Shockwave they moved to the semifinals against Nova Black. They came back from a 2-0deficit to win the game 3-2 to move on to the championship against Nova White. The 12s used steady pitching throughout the weekend from Lenai Garcia, Kendall McGowan and Julie Camacho, consistent defense from Madi Williams, Madi Oty, Marissa Chu, Jen Bonino, Sydney Iven, Jaden Ta, Ashley Burke, Kelli St. Clair and Bella Moralez to place runner-up. Offensively the 12’s had a great weekend, too.
The 14s have played in three tournaments as well, including the They also played in the Bagby Classic, where they went 1-3. They had strong pitching from Sarah Machado, Serena Causor, Mika Itow and Noelle McGowan, quality at-bats and good defense all around from Liz Krall, Jackie Orta, Taylor Morrison, Cayla Oty, Jocelyn Orta, Janelle Bannister, Kelli Des Roches, Jocelyn Lorone and Jennifer Rosales.
The 8-and-under team has already competed in Summer Slamboree and the Bob Grey Invitational. They have a record of 3-5-1 with two tournaments left.
