The Gilroy Police Department plans to conduct a DUI a driver’s license checkpoint between 9 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. today at an undisclosed location and the California Highway Patrol will conduct one Saturday in South County.
Those caught driving drunk can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, court probation and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, according to a press release from the GPD.
“The police department is always committed to traffic safety, and a major part of these checkpoints are that they raise awareness in the community,” said GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao.
“Especially with summer coming, it’s important that we conduct checkpoints,” Gallacinao said.
