Red Phone

“Red Phone, whatever happened to the planned extension of Santa Teresa Boulevard from Main to Spring avenues?”

Red Phone: Dear What Happened, Red Phone contacted City Engineer Karl Bjarke, who said the project once known as the Santa Teresa Boulevard extension is now officially the Hale Avenue extension and the limits of the project remain the same – from Main Avenue to DeWitt Avenue (near the Spring Avenue intersection). The project is in the city’s approved five-year Capital Improvements Program and the City Council has authorized the design phase to move forward. The design is approximately 30 percent complete at this point

“The project is funded with proceeds from Redevelopment Agency bonds,” Bjarke said. “As readers are aware, the Redevelopment Agency is no longer in existence as of Wednesday and the status of Redevelopment assets, such as the bond proceeds has fallen into uncertainty. At their Feb. 15 meeting, the City Council will consider the status of the projects that were proposed to be funded with the Redevelopment bond proceeds and make a decision about which projects they would like to see move forward. Ultimately, however, the decision on how the city’s Redevelopment assets can be spent or utilized will lie with the newly created Oversight Board, not the City Council. Therefore, funding the construction phase of the Hale Avenue project with Redevelopment funds is uncertain. It may have to be funded by some other source if the council wishes to complete it.”

Well good caller, seems the road extension – like other planned projects – is up in the air.

Call police if barking dog won’t stop

“Dear Red Phone, how do I know if Animal Control has been taking action after several calls and written complaints (using the form on the city of Morgan Hill web site)?”

Red Phone: Dear How Do I Know, Red Phone gets this call a couple of times a year. If the barking hasn’t stopped and you’ve filed online complaints, then it might be time to call police if the barking is incessant and disturbing the peace. Though you should know that police response to a barking dog call will be low on the list of priorities since the Animal Control officer’s position was cut last year.

Hope that helps.
