Confessions of a shooter

When residents called to complain about people firing guns off of Llagas Road, the Red Phone did some sleuthing. When the culprit saw that the Red Phone had caught him red handed, he had no choice but to confess.

John Khan has been shooting his guns in the unincorporated area northwest of Morgan Hill since he was young and hasn’t had any complaints until recently. It was when he read the Red Phone last week that he decided he couldn’t stand still anymore.

“I’ve been here all my life,” Khan said. “I’ve shot up there as long as I can remember. They moved into the rural area. If they don’t like it, they can go back where they came from. My suggestion is that they get a new pair of earplugs.”

But even with them there fighting words, he still said he wishes to be a good neighbor.

“I like to go out on the weekends and shoot, but I don’t shoot before 11am,” Khan said. “Its a decent hike up there. There’s no houses around. I shoot down into the hillside. Its all target stuff. It’s on private property, and there are no trespassing signs posted.”

Khan said no one has knocked on his door to ask him to quit. He said he did receive a visit from the Morgan Hill Police Swat officer.

“He was here for about half an hour or 45 minutes checking on where the property lines were,” Khan said. “He said I would have to get written permission to shoot on the land. So I got a note from the owner of the land that I carry around with me all the time.”

Bleached Water

“Good morning Red Phone. I live near Jackson Oaks and Dunne. I was wondering why the tap water, usually in the morning, tastes like bleach a lot. Maybe you could investigate that for me.”

Red Phone

That’s an easy one. You’ve been infested by perchlorate. OK, not really. Granted, you didn’t try to bleach out the perchlorate from your water, it could be from chlorine in the water. The state requires that a certain amount of chlorine be placed in the water in order to kill the germs. Chlorine can often taste and smell like bleach. You may want to have a plumber install an inexpensive filter on the water line to where you draw most of your drinking water. Or you can install a faucet-mounted filter to help also.

What’s with the trees

“I’m calling to find out about the palm trees on Tennant just past ACE. There a whole lot of palm trees and containers. Many of them are falling over or have broken in half. They are very very neglected. I was just wondering what’s going on with those palm trees? I know there was a nursery that went out business. Did they leave them behind?”

Red Phone

The Red Phone contacted its red neighbor – Red Roots Garden Company, who owns the land on Tennant Avenue. Although the Red Phone didn’t see any red trees there, we won’t fault them for that. The company recently moved to San Martin and no longer sells the trees retail. It currently sells them in lots of 10 or more. Some of the trees where knocked over in the storm, but store representatives insist they are still taking care of the trees.
