A reminder written long ago about the 8 stages of government bondage
Dear Editor,
Alexander Tytler wrote the eight stages of bondage around the time of the American Revolution.
The stages are as follows:
“From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.”
This bondage is bought to us by our government, at all levels and by all politicians and parties.

Wonderful holiday event at the Granada Theater thanks to many ‘Santa helpers’
Dear Editor,
First, I need to say thank you to the Morgan Hill Economic Development Corporation for allowing us to open the Granada Theater for holiday movies this past weekend. I also need to thank Tracey Jeanot and Raquel Crowell for the amazing work they did to bring this all together, and the 30 or so volunteers who gave up the weekend to make this a magical family event.
I also want to thank Bob Snow and Jim Carillo from the Poppy Jasper Film Festival and MHAT for volunteering their expertise and time. What a great way to bring the community together!
The event was Friday and Saturday night plus we had special showings for local businesses on Sunday.
Friday Night and Saturday day were very well attended with less people Saturday late due to the rain delayed parade being called off. If there is another opportunity to do this again next year we will hope that we won’t have a huge storm come in the day of the parade.
We had about 1,000 people come through the doors over the three-day event which I think is pretty good for the first year.
The goal was to get people downtown, give them a warm and fuzzy feeling and to raise donations for Community Solutions. I think that I can speak for the warm and fuzzy part as many people were asking when we could do this again and if the theater was available to rent for special showings. We told those that asked to contact the MHEDC members and let them know that there is interest in using the theater while its future is being determined.
As for Community Solutions Donations we raised $456, 115 new unwrapped toys and around 1,000 food items. On Sunday, BookSmart and the Morgan Village neighborhood sponsored a show and Santa Claus came and made a special appearance. It really was a wonderful event. I hope you all had a chance to see the Granada and the Morgan Hill Downtown Association in action. Merry Christmas!
