Two dead in string of wrecks; bus passengers elude tragedy

An unknown amount of cash was stolen Wednesday evening from the Community Christian Church located at 305 W. Main Ave. in Morgan Hill.

Church staff said they were counting tithe money when the cash disappeared. Morgan Hill police Sgt. Troy Hoefling said that the staff was unsure of exactly how much was taken, since staff members were in the middle of counting.

With the doors locked and most people for the day, church staff believe a 12-year-old child may have mistakenly let a robber into the church.

Police describe the suspect as a light skinned Hispanic male. Officers say the suspect knocked on the church doors, and the 12-year-old assumed the suspect was a member of the congregation and let him in.

The suspect, believed to be between the ages of 30 and 40, walked directly into the church office. Church staff said the suspect took the tithe money that was being counted on an office desk, walked out a side door and disappeared.

Morgan Hill Police currently do not have any leads on the case. To provide any information or tips, call the MHPD at (408) 776-7300.
