Dear Editor,
Due to budgetary shortfalls, the burden of providing copy paper, drawing paper, writing instruments, Kleenex, chalk, and other common classroom supplies conducive for classroom learning comes out of the pockets of our beleaguered teachers. Teachers Aide Coalition was founded in 1999 by Dr. Jon Hatakeyama in an effort to supplement classroom supplies not provided by the Morgan Hill Unified School District.
This past year the Morgan Hill City Council recognized the efforts which the Teacher’s Aid Coalition provided our public school students thought their efforts to bring classroom supplies to our local teachers. In addition, at a recent Morgan Hill Unified School District Board Meeting, Superintendent Dr. Alan Nishino along with new School Board President Mike Hickey provided recognition to TAC, noting the tremendous strides which current TAC officers Roger Beaulieu, Kiki Nakauchi, Irma Torrez, Barbara Neal and Judy Besheres have made this past year.
Due to their first and highly successful fundraiser at Clos LaChance winery, and the efforts these officers have made in applying successfully for grants and active solicitation of classroom supplies, TAC will be able to conduct a first-ever, second Teacher’s Giveaway in one school year in early February of 2006. Although a few local businesses have donated supplies, support among our community has largely been by individuals and families.
TAC feels, as does our City Council and School Board, that a solid education benefits everyone. A Community which supports public education provide a more vibrant business and social climate. TAC would welcome donations and provision of school supplies from the many from our business community and the individuals and families which will benefit from an improved education friendly environment.
Lets make TAC’s February Teacher’s Give Away a significant showing of how the Community supports our local teachers and public education, by making a contribution. Contact Roger Beaulieu (408) – 779-5308, be*****@****ic.com for more information or to inform him of your support. Supplies can be dropped off at the offices of Dr. Hatakeyama (408) – 779-7391, jy****@********es.com )Â located at 370 W. Dunne Ave. Ste. #3, Morgan Hill, week days, during normal business hours. TAC and our teachers welcome your support.
