Dear Editor,

“Where do you stand?” asks Richard Pombo’s latest pop-up in my snail mail box. “Do you want energy independence by 2025?” is the first question and the second question leads you right into your only option – drill in ANWR (the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge).

Yes, I want our nation to be energy independent. Independent of oil. And independent of our need to meddle with other nations to get that oil. Would I be willing to drill in ANWR to achieve independence? NO!

ANWR is a refuge – from who? Humans! We have altered nature in so many places that we had to set aside spots to leave alone.

The only way to describe the president set by violating ANWR is UGLY.

Since we have have already spent billions of dollars and thousands of lives in our quest for oil (mislabeled as helping people create democratic societies).

How about some ROI? (Return On Investment). Let us spend our money with these people so they can grow, while CONCURRENTLY we advance our technologies to become energy independent – with a due date of 2025.

Mr Pombo please lay off our parks and refuges – they are not here for you to plunder.

Thousands of people and volunteers have given their own land, put in countless hours, millions of dollars to create our public lands, parks and refuges – if you don’t respect this – stay off!

Morgan Hill
