Quarterback John Bell practices reading the defensive end on a run play.

Sobrato’s first game of the 2017 season against Christopher is fast approaching.
The boys have hit the practice field and weight room all this summer as they get ready for the Aug. 25 kickoff in Gilroy.
It’s a new league for the Bulldogs, who opted to move down to the West Valley Division after winning just two games overall and one in Santa Teresa Division play last year.
Sobrato will be senior heavy this upcoming season, which is fine for coach Tony Holmes who said his seniors are where they should be at this point.
But there is still work to be done.
To that end, the Bulldogs have gone heavy this week with practice on the field three days and finishing up the week in the weight room on Thursday.
The boys got a bit of a respite this week as temperatures have come down from the scorching temps felt over the weekend. On Monday, despite the mercury hovering above 90 degrees, the afternoon wind heading south from San Jose kicked in to make the early evening workouts a little more tolerable.
Sobrato is officially back at it on Aug. 18 when the Bulldogs head up to Leigh for the Jamboree before kick off at Christopher. The first home game is slated for Sept. 9 against Monterey.
