A public hearing on the district’s Mitigated Negative Declaration of the Peet Road property will be conducted at the Aug. 1 school board meeting, less than a week after the state’s Department of Toxic Substances Control held a public forum detailing the cleanup plan for the future home of S.G. Borello Elementary School.
The purpose of the hearing is “to solicit public comments on the matters of the proposed Borello Elementary School located at the northeast intersection of Peet Road and Mission Avenida,” according to the agenda.
“The MND has determined that although the Proposed Project could have a significant impact on the environment, mitigation measures can be employed to ensure all impacts would remain less than significant,” the staff report continues.
The MND is available online at mhusd.org/s-g-borello-elementary-school-documents/ with print copies available at the Morgan Hill Public Library and MHUSD district office.
Closed session begins at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1 with public session scheduled to open at 6 p.m. at the district office (15600 Concord Circle).
Also on the Aug. 1 agenda:
• District staff is requesting board approval for three Provisional Internship Permits to fill vacant certificated teacher positions for the 2017-18 school year.
Those positions are for one high school and one elementary school special education teacher as well as a high school physical education teacher,
“Despite repeatedly posting on EdJoin, our MHUSD website and blast emails to partner universities, qualified candidates did not apply,” according to the Aug. 1 agenda. “It is difficult to hire qualified teachers this late in the school year and find fully credentialed candidates.”
The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing issues PIP to allow individuals “additional time to meet the subject matter competence requirements needed to enter an internship program.” It is for one year and is non-renewable. The district will provide mentors for each of the PIP teachers.
• District staff is requesting approval of a $23,000 contract with California Association for Bilingual Education Project 2 Inspire. “This participant intensive training is provided with on-going follow up coaching and mentoring to accomplish two goals: help parents, teachers and administrators to develop and implement individual action plans and to work together as an effective family-school-community collaboration team,” the agenda states. “The school collaboration team will use what they are learning to design, implement, evaluate and revise the parent involvement policies and parent involvement compact—all components of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement. All these efforts are linked to specific academic performance standards.”
•District staff is requesting approval of the 45-day budget revision for 2017-18.
