Members of the Britton Middle School Volcano Kids Club are fundraising for their educational excursion to Costa Rica with a Feb. 2 silent auction fundraiser at Noah’s Bistro.

Eighth grade science teacher George Flores and his Britton Middle School Volcano Kids Club are on the move again—at least they are planning to be with a little help from the local community.
After exploring the volcanoes of the Hawaiian islands for about five years with different students who may not otherwise experience such a trip, Flores shifted gears and began taking student crews to Costa Rica last year.
This time, 38 students are on board to join him on his annual trip to Central America, where they will explore the local culture, surrounding marine life and geological aspects such as the active volcanoes. They will go for six days over the spring break in April.
Each student must raise $2,400 for the trip, which includes airfare, hotel stay, all meals, all excursions and transportation. Parent chaperones also accompany the students.
The Volcano Kids Club, a nonprofit organization, will host its big fundraiser with a silent auction and raffle drawing from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 2 at Noah’s Bistro, located at 17500 Monterey Road in downtown Morgan Hill. Auction items are still coming in but currently there are event tickets for local attractions, wine baskets and bicycles for patrons to bid on.
Noah’s, which offered up its facilities free of charge, will also be donating 15 percent of its Feb. 2 dinner proceeds to the club.
