To celebrate Morgan Hill’s 100th anniversary, local residents will plant special “Centennial Oak” Saturday at 10am at the San Pedro Percolation Ponds Trail.
The tree planting event is jointly sponsored by the City of Morgan Hill, the Santa Clara Valley Water District, and the San Pedro Ponds Trail Volunteers group, a non-profit working to preserve the natural beauty of the ponds.
“The South Valley public is warmly invited to attend this fun and friendly event commemorating our city’s century anniversary,” said Stu Nuttall, president of the San Pedro Ponds Trail Volunteers. “We want to remind folks that historically Morgan Hill’s quality of life has been based on the natural beauty – the beautiful trees and grassy hills – that surrounds us.”
Morgan Hill resident Jon Hatakeyama developed the tree planting idea and worked with SCVWD director Rosemary Kamei as well Anne Beale and Mori Struve of the city’s Planning Department to organize it. The city will provide a plaque for the tree describing the joint relationship between all three organizations.
Mayor Dennis Kennedy and Mayor-elect Steve Tate will do the honors of planting the oak tree. For more information, call Ken Mort at (408) 776-2933.
