Nolan Dozier grimaces as he comes down the stretch of the boys 1600-meter race at the Avis Kelley Invitational on Saturday.

Morgan Hill was well represented at the annual Avis Kelley Invitational at Gilroy High School on Saturday.
Especially in the distance races.
Nolan Dozier and Emily Harris from Sobrato and Kaylah Grant from Live Oak turned in Top 5 performances in the mile and two mile races.
In all, 39 schools from around the Bay Area and beyond descended on Gilroy for the annual meet.
Led by Dozier’s strong finish, Sobrato boys tied for 14th as a team with Dos Palos. Live Oak took 21st overall.
On the girls side, Live Oak and Sobrato were tied for 15th, both just three points behind Gilroy.
Central of Fresno swept the boys, girls and frosh/soph boys team wins. San Benito took second in the boys and girls varsity results. Christopher took fourth in the girls and fifth in the boys varsity.
Dozier took first in the 1600 meter with a time
of 4:22.58.
He easily won the event by three seconds over Calaveras’ Devin Scheidt, who finished in 4:25.85.
Grant also pulled a win when she ran an 11:32.70 in the 3200 meters.
Harris captured second in the 800 meter race by a hair. She just out stretched Haily Cross of San Benito by 0.09 seconds.
Harris ran a 2:26.49 to Cross’ 2:26.58.
Marisa Villegas of San Benito won the 800m in 2:23.04.
Harris then captured fourth in the 1600 meter in 5:22.28. Teammate Nicole Ownes took 29th with a time of 6:02.32.
San Benito’s Villegas took first with a time of 5:13.33.
In all, Live Oak and Sobrato had a combined 12 Top 10 finishes with Cameron Kim of Live Oak adding a fifth Top 5 mark in the high jump.
The senior cleared 5 feet, 4 inches to claim fifth in the event.
Kim then took sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 53.27.
Sobrato’s Linden Boggiano took 10th in a very tight race with a time of 54.26. Jordan Navy, also from Sobrato, was 13th, just 0.14 seconds behind Boggiano in 54.40.
Live Oak’s Brenden White had a pair of Top 10s in the shot put and Discus. He took eighth in the shot with a 43-foot, 5-inch toss.
He then took 10th in the discus with a 117-foot, 8-inch toss.
Live Oak’s Andrew Welch took 13th hitting 111 feet even with Victor Romo taking 18th overall with a 101-foot, 7-inch throw.
Welch also took 34th in the shot with a toss of 34 feet, 6 inches. Romo was 37th overall with a mark of 32 feet, 6 inches.
Harrison Hill took ninth in the 200 meters, finishing with a time of 24.25. Boggiano took 19th  with a time of 25.03.
He was 0.11 seconds off of a Top 15 finish, falling behind San Benito’s Clay Schwall who took that spot with a time of 24.92.
Also for Live Oak, Mikaela Turnispeed had a strong day taking 10th in the 200 meters with a time of 28.30. She also turned in a strong 16th place finish in the 100 meters in 13.83. She missed the Top 15 by 0.01 seconds.
First went to Central’s Daveion Robinson with a time of 12.88.
Sarah Jacob had a strong 23rd place finish with a time of 14.04 followed by Sydney Hauge in 25th in 14.11.
Jacob also had a 19th place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 29.85.
Kiele Anderson took sixth in the high jump for Live Oak, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches for her top 10 finish.
Rounding out the top marks was Sam Ramirez for Live Oak in the triple jump, leaping 30 feet, 6 inches in the girls event.
Oakwood also had a strong showing with Maryam Moghaddami taking 12th in the girls 300 meter hurdles when she ran a 54.28.
Live Oak’s Shannon Hoyle followed in 18th with a time of 57.03.
Moghaddami also had a 23rd place finish in the 100m hurdles, turning in a time of 20.35 and a 28th place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 31.23.
Rounding out her day was an 11th place finish in the long jump, clearing 14 feet, 1 inch.
Also for Oakwood was Nathan Walker who ran a 54.86 in the 300-meter hurdles for 19th.
He also ran a 5:47.85 in the 1600 meters for 57th overall.
Morgan Hill had several other strong finishes, led by Mitch Conforti, who took 15th overall in the 100-meter dash when he finished in 12.07.
He was about a half second off the winning pace of 11.40, turned in from Central’s Stephen Garcia. Conforti was also just edged out for a Top 10 finish, coming in 0.19 seconds behind Jared King of Leigh.
