As part of a fellowship and cultural exchange between the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill and Rotary Club of Ilorin, seven Nigerian diplomats took an April 27 tour of Nordstrom Elementary School to witness firsthand how technology is utilized in the classrooms.
Nordstrom Principal Debbie Grove, along with fourth-grade student tour guide Ben Ledwith, showed the special guests around the school campus at 1425 E. Dunne Ave. as site staff and the student body welcomed them into their classrooms.
The group dropped into a number of classrooms, ranging from first to sixth grade, selected to help highlight how students and teachers are using technology every day to further their education.
Inside one classroom, the visitors watched as first and second grade students learned how to create a presentation on Google Slides.
Waheed Kayode Ismail, Rotary Club of Ilorin’s Vice President, commented that he was “very impressed that at their young ages the students already know so much about computers and how to operate the software.”
In a sixth-grade classroom, students were observed as they created quizlettes on Chromebooks to help them study for the upcoming state testing in science
Two years ago, Rotary of Morgan Hill raised funds to purchase and install medical equipment at a private hospital in the city of Egbe, 60 miles from Ilorin, Nigeria. Six portable ultrasound devices, two cardiac monitors, an AED defibrillator, plus a variety of other medical materials were purchased and installed at the hospital. That project was carried out in partnership with the Rotary Club of Ilorin.
