Car Show
Expect great things this year from the Garlic City Car Show, hosted by the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce. Hang out in historic downtown reminiscing about the good old days or just come to appreciate great classic cars. Live music is back with the Shane Dwight Band, Jeff and Juli Strametz, The Blue Sky Band with Kaye Bohler and more local favorites. As you stroll the downtown, grab lunch at a local restaurant or grab a bite from a visiting vendor. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Cold Season Gardens
Learn what veggies you can grow at the master gardeners workshop for Planning your Fall and Winter Vegetable Garden. Cold season crops such as leafy greens, root vegetables and broccoli can be planted after your tomatoes are gone. You can successfully build your winter garden and have fresh salads all year long. ‘80s Dance Party
Support the Sobrato High School Marching Band and Color Guard by attending the Totally ‘80s Dance. This event is open to all ages and encourages dressing in costume to win prizes. The evening includes catered dinner by GVA Café Bistro and music by local band Undercover. Guglielmo Harvest Fest
Party with the Guglielmo Family at their annual Harvest Festival where the grapes are picked and ready for stomping. The celebration includes games, great appetizers, festive wine selections and of course the traditional Blessing of the Grapes. Auditions
South Valley Civic Theatre’s holiday musical, The 1940’s Radio Hour, will be coming to Morgan Hill in November. Be part of a live broadcast and immerse yourself in the spirit of that bygone era when the world was at war and pop music meant “Strike Up the Band” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.” Auditions will be held Thursday Aug. 25 through Saturday, Aug. 27. The Row Wine Stroll
The harvest season is just around the corner for wine grapes and Santana Row in San Jose will be celebrating the end of summer with a wine stroll around The Row. Santa Cruz Mountain wineries will be on display and ready for tasting at participating businesses. A portion of the proceeds from the walk will be donated to the Bill Wilson Center, which offers a variety of services for children, adolescents and adults. A silent auction will be set up in Santana Row Park also benefiting the Bill Wilson Center. The stroll happens Saturday, Aug. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $35. Vaquero Heritage
The Vaquero Heritage Days include a show and sale where artisans share their skills in the vaquero techniques of rawhide braiding, silversmithing and more. Catch the equestrian presentations and take in the historic grounds where early vaqueros gathered herds of livestock in the mid 1800s. On Saturday, complete the evening with a dinner and concert at 6 p.m. On Sunday begin the day with a special “Rancho Inspiration Service” at 9 a.m. No dogs allowed. Monarch Butterfly Migrations
Monarch butterflies are unable to survive cold winters so they migrate in search of their favorite trees, eucalyptus and pine, along the coast of California. The delicate orange and black Monarchs weigh less than 1 gram and lay their eggs inland on milkweed plants.
