“I have a question regarding the property on the corner of Wright and Hale avenues. I believe it is Valley Transportation Authority property where there is a transit stop. But this property is seriously in need of cleanup. Who is responsible?”
Red Phone: Dear Who is Responsible, Red Phone contacted Linh Hoang, public relations supervisor at the Valley Transportation Authority.
She said that corner is not VTA property. The agency does own a transit center and park-and-ride lot at Main and Hale avenues, about a half mile south of the property in question, she added.
So, Red Phone contacted Mori Struve, deputy director of public works, who said the property, on the northwest corner of Wright and Hale avenues, is owned by Dividend Homes.
“This developer has plans to develop the property, but like many currently, the plans are on hold,” Struve said. As far as clearing the property of debris, Struve said: “The city has received the concern and will follow up applying the fire marshall’s regulations to the condition and take appropriate action if any.”
Hope that answers your question, good caller.
Sign project went out to bid in 2008
“Red Phone, I have looked for the bid results of the ‘publicly bid’ directional signs and could not find any information. I am in the business, and do not recall ever seeing the Morgan Hill directional sign project ‘publicly’ advertised, as the city claimed in your Aug. 18 article. Have you actually seen the bid advertisements? Have you actually seen the bid results? How many bidders actually responded to this alleged ‘public’ advertisement? Is what the city/RDA did even legal?”
Red Phone: Dear Can’t Find It, Red Phone contacted Mario Jimenez, project engineer, who said the city follows state law regarding the bidding of public projects, and the city wide directional sign project was no exception.
“The project was advertised from Dec. 19 though Dec. 30, 2008. The bid opening was Jan. 21, 2009,” he said. “Bid results can be obtained at the Development Services Center, 17555 Peak Ave., or by calling 778-6480.
There you have it, good caller. Call Mario to get the details. Hope that answers your questions.
