Sobrato’s Marcus Patrick makes a sack during last year’s 52-27

‘Dogs want to avenge last year’s ugly loss to Soquel
MORGAN HILL — You will not see a football team score so easily and lose so badly as last year, when Sobrato got trounced by Soquel, 52-27, at Richert Field.

Sobrato graduates Steven Sorce and Alex Meldrum connected for 264 yards and three touchdowns, but the Bulldogs had no answer for Soquel’s shotgun double-wing offense. They will have to find one Friday when they meet the Knights at Soquel High for a nonleague rematch at 7 p.m.

Sobrato is trying to to build off its best start (1-0) in program history.

“Our defense definitely has something to prove. We have to make up for last year,” Bulldogs linebacker/wingback Marcus Patrick said. “We have to get in there and push them up front.”

Last year, Soquel (1-1) amassed more than 400 yards of offense against Sobrato.

“You have to get 11 guys to the ball every play,” Sobrato quarterback Patrick Bacciarelli said. “We should be able to score on them, so we just have to step up defensively.”

Against the Knights of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League, don’t expect the Bulldogs to air it out again. Sobrato second-year coach Nick Borello described his team’s passing display a year ago as an improvisation.

“We’re a running team,” he said. “If we have to pass it again, something went wrong.”
