OAKLAND — Pushing across 24 points for the fourth time in their last five contests, the Central Coast Barnstormers shutout the Oakland Vipers last Saturday on the road en route to their fifth straight win, sixth this season.

The Barnstormers, a semipro football team based in Gilroy, will put their win streak on the line Saturday when the rival Salinas Spartans visit the Garcia-Elder Sports Complex.

Central Coast has not lost a game since its Week 2 matchup on March 21, when the Barnstormers fell to the defending national champion Pacifica Islanders. Since then, however, the team has been mowing down the competition on its way to a 6-1 record and 216-133 point differential.

Central Coast, which stands atop the National Conference South standings, holds a two-game lead on the California Warriors and the Salinas Spartans, both of which carry matching 4-3 records.

The Barnstormers and Spartans will kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday in Gilroy. The game will also be the first of a three-game homestand for Central Coast to wrap up the regular season.

On May 9, the Barnstormers will host the East Bay Outlaws before the California Warriors come to Gilroy on May 16 to close out the season.
