TRACK AND FIELD: Rios places fourth in Arcadia Invite

Live Oak’s track and field teams routed the Dons on Tuesday at
Richert Field
MORGAN HILL — Live Oak placed first in 10 events on the way to routing Del Mar 74-47 in girls track and field Tuesday.

The victory at Richert Field moved the host Lady Acorns to 3-1 in Santa Teresa Division dual meets.

Live Oak’s Stephanie Armstrong was part of the four first-place finishes. The senior won both hurdle events, clocking 17.97 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 53.99 in the 300-meter hurdles, and cleared four feet, eight inches to win the high jump. Armstrong also ran the opening leg of the first-place 4×400-meter relay, which also featured Pauline Olsen, Catherine Sparling and Courtney Robinson.

Olsen had a big day as well. The junior sprinted to first place in the 400 meters (1:01.24) and 800 meters (2:36.99).

The Acorns’ prized 4×100-meter relay of Robinson, Sparling, Lauren Drewniany and Erika Rodriguez outkicked Del Mar (0-4 league) to win in 52.40, with Drewniany adding a victory in the long jump (15-5 1/2).

Live Oak’s boys contingent picked up its first league victory against the Dons, winning 78-48.

Del Mar (0-4) made a strong showing in the field, but Live Oak dominated on the track, taking nine of the 10 events.

For the Acorns (1-3), Adam Groen triumphed in the mile (5:10.20) and 800 (2:30.76), Nick Ferguson won the 110-meter hurdles (19.45), Jacob Montoya placed first in the 400 (54.51) and Matthew Dariano won the 300 hurdles (48.39).

Montoya also ran the anchor leg of a victorious 4×400 relay (3:51.53) with Kenny Lee, Jacob Daw and Kean Vaziry.

Live Oak’s 4×100 relay of Jeff Roberts, Greg White, Billy Van Aken and James Hamblin opened the day with a win in 44.54.
