SAN JOSE — The Live Oak softball team wrapped up the Mission City Invitational on Friday with a marathon 1-0 loss to Valley Christian in nine innings.
The Lady Acorns managed three hits off Warriors starter Janell LaRont, who was locked in a pitchers dual with Kelly Hillman of Live Oak.
Jenna Robertson doubled for the Acorns.
Live Oak mustered five hits Thursday against Westmont, but left Campbell with a 7-1 loss in Mount Hamilton Division play.
Brooke Willis tripled and scored the Acorns’ only run.
SWIMMING
Bulldogs now 5-0
Division swimming powers, the Sobrato boys team stayed undefeated in league dual meets with an 87-83 victory over Piedmont Hills on Thursday at Sobrato High.
The Bulldogs (5-0 league) clinched it in the final event, when Michael Lopes, Danny Thompson, Adam Jasper and Timmy Thompson won the 400-yard freestyle relay in three minutes, 42.48 seconds.
Sobrato won five events, including an individual victory apiece by the Thompson brothers. Danny won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.07, and Timmy the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.97.
Jasper won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:42.30.
Teammate Ammon Suzuki won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle — and almost qualified for sectionals in both. His time of 23.51 in the 50 freestyle was less than a second off the CIF-Central Coast Section-qualifying standard (22.99). Suzuki came within two seconds of qualifying in the 100 freestyle, clocking 52.83.
Vantrood fourth
Jason Vantrood finished an impressive fourth in Sunday’s Palo Alto Diving Invitational.
The Live Oak junior scored 281.1, edging Monta Vista’s Danny Yusem.

Sobrato stayed warm for the Santa Teresa Division Singles/Doubles Tournament with a 5-2 victory over Oak Grove in the rain Thursday.
The Bulldogs’ singles winners were Ronnie Pollard, Zach Thomas and A. Stuts.
The Sobrato (8-4) pairs of Gian Abella and Jacob Mendiola; and Chris Holmes and Mitch Schenkelberg also won.
