Morgan Hill – At its last league home game, the Live Oak High field hockey team brought its “A” game and ended its regulation season with an overtime victory over Lynbrook.
The game opened slowly with neither team having a majority possession. The battle for the ball was found in the center field with senior Sarah Whitling.
Lynbrook seized an opportunity when they scored on a short corner in the first half.
Captain Rebecca Webb responded and scored her second goal this week on an assist by leading goal scorer, Kami Tersini.
Neither team was able to capitalize on short corner opportunities, so the game was pushed into overtime.
The seniors, Taylor Sutton, Kelly McDonald, Rebecca Webb, Sarah Whitling and Janet Lee, took to the field followed by Captain Sarah Locarnini and mid-fielder Robin Nelson.
Sutton had great hits up the field toward the goal, but the defining moment of the overtime came from the offense.
On a cross in front of the goal, Nelson juked the goalie and made a pass to Rebecca Webb. Rebecca
Webb scored ending the game 2-1.
Not only did Webb give Live Oak another win, but she pushed Lynbrook out of the running for Central Coast Section.
The Acorns have maintained second place in the Santa Teresa Divison and will be making their first CCS playoff appearance since 2001.
