Morgan Hill All-Star team ends sectionals with strong showing in
championship round, regionals next
SAN JOSE — Behind a sparkling start by pitcher Evan Dean, Morgan Hill’s Bronco 11 Green All-Stars had Blossom Valley on the ropes until the final inning Thursday in the San Jose Section championship round.
That’s when Morgan Hill’s old rivals struck again. After trailing 4-0, Blossom Valley pushed two runs across in the sixth and seventh innings to tie it, then scored the go-ahead run in the eight to win 5-4.
Both clubs are set to play in the four-team San Pablo Regional Tournament beginning July 16.
“It was a tough way to go out, but it showed a lot about our team, being able to hang with BV like that,” Morgan Hill manager Mark Dean said. “Their confidence is very high. The kids put forth their best effort.”
At Herman School, the Green All-Stars were trying to force a decisive second game with undefeated Blossom Valley, which beat many of Mark Dean’s current players 10-0 in a Morgan Hill Mustang Sectional final last year.
Evan Dean shut down Blossom Valley for most of the game, striking out seven and surrendering one hit through 5 2-3 innings. He left in the sixth after retiring his first two batters.
“He pitched one hell of a game, like no other team I’ve seen him,” Mark Dean said. “We could see he was getting tired near the end.”
Evan Dean also batted 2 for 4 and received offensive help from Ryan Quadros and Justin Baker, who totaled a pair of hits apiece.
