Red Phone: All dogs must be confined or on a leash

Did Wachovia Bank decide to cancel construction of the new bank
building just across from Chili’s?
“Did Wachovia Bank decide to cancel construction of the new bank building just across from Chili’s? The concrete pad along with electrical contractor trailer are still there for more than 8 months or so. As a Wachovia customer (former World Savings Bank) since 1977, I really hate to drive to the Stevens Creek branch in San Jose to fight with Valley Fair shoppers as well as the heavy traffic around Santana Row. The traffic at Cochrane Road is just perfect for me to get to the new bank site. Thanks Red Phone. I’m waiting for your wonderful answer.”

Red Phone: Dear Waiting, Red Phone is not sure you’ll find the answer so wonderful, but here it is anyway. Red Phone contacted Garrett Toy, Business Assistance and Housing Services director, who said Wachovia Bank (now owned by Wells Fargo) has canceled construction of the new branch office, according to the developer of Cochrane Commons.

“The developer continues to work to convince Wachovia to change their minds and proceed with the project,” Toy said.

So good caller, looks like you’ll have to continue making that commute north to do your banking. Hopefully, the economy recovers soon and Wachovia reconsiders and proceeds with the branch office in South County.

Yes, a new assisted-living facility coming

“A few months back I inquired as to what was going in at this location and was told it was a ‘grading project’ and nothing was being built. Well, now it looks like foundations are being poured. Do you have an update?”

Red Phone: Dear What’s Going On, Red Phone contacted Garrett Toy, Business Assistance and Housing Services director. Just off Cochrane Road and U.S. 101 is where the new assisted living project is under construction, he said.

Red Phone answered a question regarding that project in the Aug. 21 edition. It’ll be a three-story building with 88 units and encompass about 45,000 square feet.
