Though the “senioritis” has been lingering through every senior high school student all year long, the season of such activities is heating up.
This Wednesday, the wave of senior activities is kicked off with the senior barbeque. The seniors are going to be treated to a barbeque at the snack shack while the speeches of the candidates running for office next school year will take place in the gym. This always has to tug a string at the hearts of the seniors in Associated Student Body because it means that we are going to be replaced!
Coming up on April 26 is the senior panorama. The panorama takes place during the week of the California STAR testing since seniors do not participate in the testing. On the same day that they take the class panorama, we also receive our graduation announcements. All seniors ordered and personalized their announcements and goodies a few months back and this is the day we get to see them and let all of our friends and family know about our accomplishment.
There is much more for the seniors in May and June, but there are some non-senior activities coming up.
This Thursday is the opening night of the Live Oak Drama Guild’s production of Oklahoma! The spring musical shows at 7:30pm, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and April 6-8. Thursday shows are at 7:30pm and Friday and Saturday shows are at 8pm. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased ahead of time or at the door, if there is seating.
Our spring sports are also in full swing and we introduced all of them at our spring rally two weeks ago. We had all teams introduce their players and talk about their record and upcoming games. Also at the rally there were performances by the Live Oak Hip Hop Team, Kevin Chao (a finalist of the Lip Scene), and an awesome Star Spangled Banner played on the saxophone by senior Arvin Paredes.
ASB has been a little quiet during the last few weeks but that will soon end. Between the senior activities and finding new ASB officers, Live Oak will be buzzing with spring fever. There are less than 51 days of school left!
