Should Barack Obama’s primary focus be on international
relations or the economy?
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
“Should Barack Obama’s primary focus be on international relations or the economy?” International Relations: 0 The Economy: 5 Both: 6
? Karen Anderson: “I don’t think he has the luxury to choose. His cabinet and advisors will be covering all fronts.”
? Bert Berson: “In the words of King Solomon, ‘both.'”
? Chris Bryant: “Definitely the economy. While international relations should not be totally ignored, they should take second place to resolving our own economic issues.”
? David Cohen: “A president can’t afford to focus on only one thing. It is no more apparent than here in Silicon Valley that we live and work in a global economy. Fixing the economy is important, but doing so means fixing it globally. The economy is a vital but small part of the global equation, so he must focus on both.”
? Dennis Kennedy: “The economy first with international relations close behind! Multi-task!”
? Julian Mancias: “The economy. The international issues are very complicated. The United States will need to be at full strength when dealing internationally. Restoring our economy will strengthen our position.”
? Linda McNulty: “Both.”
? Henry Miller: “I would hope we elected a president who could multi-task. However, if one of these must be considered primary, the political slogan from 16 years ago seems most appropriate: “It’s the economy, _ _ _ _ _ _ !!!
? Lisa Pampuch: “While he must – and will – focus on both international relations and the economy along with scores of other issues, the economy tops President-elect Obama’s to-do list.”
? John Quick: “Both. They are intimately connected. George Bush’s bogus wars (Iraq and the ‘War on Terror’) have had extreme costs that have played a role in the financial crisis and have been counterproductive. Obama can delegate a more sensible foreign policy (Hillary Clinton) while putting his primary focus on the economy.
? Emily Shem-Tov: “Both – He has great teams in place to tackle both issues at the same time, and in this global economy they are interrelated.”
