Assault with a Deadly Weapon
A San Jose man was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on Thursday evening for assault with a deadly weapon after arguing with a coworker, said Morgan Hill Police Cmdr. Joe Sampson. Cong Doan, 29, was allegedly quarreling with Juan Olivera, 22, of Santa Clara after working on a house on Diana Avenue.
Sampson said a neighbor reported the two were pushing and shoving, and Doan grew steadily more upset as Olivera allegedly taunted him. Doan then allegedly grabbed a hammer from the back of the pickup truck their tools were in, Sampson said, and began swinging it around. As Olivera jumped into the bed of the pickup, Doan managed to connect with his shin. Olivera was transported to the hospital with a badly injured shin, Sampson said.
Runaway Cars, Fleeing Suspects
MHPD officers are looking for a Morgan Hill man – Joe Catano, 25 – in connection with a stolen vehicle after an incident early Saturday morning. MHPD Cmdr. Joe Sampson said officers on patrol at 12:05am noticed a green Kia and a white Cadillac with their lights out and attempted to stop both vehicles.
As they approached the intersection of Hale Avenue and Llagas Avenue, the driver of the Kia jumped out of the car while it was still rolling. The car continued to roll, crashing into a water pump station. Officers in pursuit recognized the driver as Catano, who led them in a chase over fences and through yards. Officers lost track of Catano, Sampson said. Two people also fled on foot from the Cadillac and were gone when officers returned.
