Time to give those in gangs the boot from high school

Dear Editor,

What’s going on at Morgan Hill’s Live Oak High School, where gang thugs have been allowed to take over while school officials wring their hands and deny there is a problem? Our children are frightened and intimidated by these junior criminals who really have little interest in learning in the first place but are allowed to run wild and play gangster.

Having school officials bury their heads in the sand and deny there is a gang problem in school is nothing new. It’s been going on for years; since the school district receives money from the state for each student present they see little incentive to get rid of the bums. At the same time it seems school administrators deny a problem so they won’t look bad or incompetent. Guess what? It’s too late. They already look bad and everyone from the police to the students seem to know there is a problem. It’s time the community realized this clear and present danger caused by street gangs sporting red and blue for north and south organized gangs.

It’s time school officials brought in the police and gave them the cooperation they need to do their jobs. It’s time they cooperated with the press and allowed the word to get out that LOHS has a major problem which threatens the safety of the students, staff and the community. It’s time the community spoke up to demand that something be done before Morgan Hill is allowed to become even more gang infested like south central Los Angeles. If you think it can’t happen you are wrong and you need to become aware. We have students who are afraid to go to school or to speak up when they see a problem for fear of retaliation by gang members.

Legislators, thanks for the votes that helped South County

Dear Editor,

I am writing to acknowledge three local politicians for their hard work, and commitment to the voters of Assembly District 27, Congressional District 11, and Santa Clara County (Morgan Hill).

Cheers to Greg Sellers for obtaining a permanent seat on the Valley Transportation Authority board. I cannot think of a more qualified individual to represent South County on this board. Good luck Greg, in representing us and the County on the VTA!

Cheers to Bill Monning (D- Monterey) for saving the Morgan Hill Redevelopment Agency $2 million. I must also thank Bill for his very courageous and thoughtful voting on the water package. And finally, Bill deserves our respect for choosing to come to San Martin to talk to constituents there about the many issues facing that small rural community.

Cheers to Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Tracy) for his vote for health care reform in the House of Representatives. I also applaud Jerry’s concern about the water package’s inclusion of an $11.1 billion Peripheral Canal in the San Joaquin Delta. We all should be very concerned about this canal. Can you imagine a canal the size of the Panama Canal being built in the Delta? The environmental impact is just mind boggling and the cost in just dollars alone is not what the state needs to do now. When this bond measure comes up for your vote in November; JUST SAY NO! Can you imagine what good that kind of money would do for our schools, or to begin the overhaul of the crumbling levee system in the Delta?

I just have one question for the Congressman; can we get an update about the Llagas Creek Flood Control Project? This is the second year in a row that our downtown businesses have taken a hit from flooding. Some of these businesses are barely hanging on in these tough economic times, and for some, flood damage is the final straw. The bill was passed and the money appropriated from what I understand, let’s get the rest to The Army Corps of Engineers and the SCVWD and get this creek fixed!

OK, now it’s really time for some real hope and change

Dear Editor,

Even a few members of the media (at least the international media) are catching on that President Barack Obama isn’t only bad news for America, he’s also a third-rate world leader for Europe and Africa.

On Nov. 9th, the international French TV channel “TV5” featured a panel of journalists on the theme of “Barack Obama and a new vision of the United States in Africa.”

The Africa correspondent of the French national newspaper “Le Figaro” offered an amazing comment: “Despite what one can think of George W. Bush’s policies, we have to admit that he helped Africa enormously. He had a real plan and vision for this continent. This is not the case anymore with Obama. Obama has no vision for Africa. His speeches are only words.”

The Sudanese journalist agreed: “Yes, Bush did better. We thought that Obama, with his origins, would help us, but it is not the case. He doesn’t do anything. He is under pressure by his advisers and he doesn’t know which solution he has to propose to Africa. This was not the case with Bush.”

And here in America, we too are suffering from Obama, with a $1.4 trillion deficit and a 10.2 percent unemployment rate (after we were promised that his pork-laden $787 billion stimulus package would keep unemployment at 8 percent or below). It’s time for a change and some hope.
