The Eighth Annual South Valley Wine Auction, with its vast array of wines being poured and fine area restaurants serving all types of delectable samplings, is returning to the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center. The evening is always a hit for the palate, and the proceeds benefit sports programs at the 11 Morgan Hill Unified schools.
The brainchild of Dr. Jon Hatakeyama, a long-time Morgan Hill dentist, came about as an answer to the growing need for children to get exercise. It’s his hope that the funds raised will help kids get and stay healthy, avoiding diseases and obesity that often develop from a sedentary lifestyle.
In honor of its 100th anniversary this year, the city of Morgan Hill has commissioned a specially-labeled, six liter, hand-painted, etched bottle of the finest Santa Clara Valley-grown Cabernet Sauvignon.
The South Valley Wine Auction boasts a staff of local celebrities. Morgan Hill’s Mayor Dennis Kennedy is always an integral part of the team. The evening’s host is Jona Denz-Hamilton, long-time radio announcer from 94.5 KBAY. Ridgemark Golf and Country Club’s Food and Wine Ambassador and award-winning chef, Dorothy McNett, will lend her expertise as the live auction’s emcee.
The live auction is where the fun really gets going as the two cowboy-auctioneers saunter on stage, dressed up in their tuxes and cowboy boots and hats. There won’t be any slow-talkin’ once the items go up for bid.
South Valley Wine Auction
The South Valley Wine Auction will take place at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center’s Hiram Morgan Hill Room, 17000 Monterey Road at Dunne Avenue, Friday April 28 from 6 to 10pm. Tickets are $50 in advance, available at Booksmart 17415 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill, or online at www.SVWineAuction.org. Tickets at the door will be $60 unless the event sells out early.
