SHS wins division opener; LO falls to Willow Glen
MORGAN HILL — The Sobrato boy’s tennis team made an impressive debut in its new division.
Fresh off winning the Blossom Valley Athletic League-West Valley Division title last season, the Bulldogs opened Santa Teresa Division play Thursday with a 4-3 victory over Yerba Buena.
“They did a good job getting off to a good start,” Sobrato coach Randy Barbaglia said. “They’re doing just fine. It’s going to be hard to duplicate last year’s winning season this year. But they’re going in the right direction.”
Sobrato got singles wins from Ronnie Pollard, Nick Garber and Zach Thomas, plus a clinching doubles victory by Chris Holmes and Khuzema Khairullah.
Sobrato on Tuesday will visit Independence before hosting Branham on Thursday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
The Live Oak boy’s tennis team also opened league play Thursday, falling 5-2 in a West Valley Division match at Willow Glen High School.
Jimmy Shedded secured a hard-fought singles victory, 7-6, (7-3), 6-1, for the Acorns, who will travel to San Jose for a 3:15 p.m. game Thursday.
