MORGAN HILL — The Live Oak girl’s soccer team fell short of making the playoffs, but engulfed the all-Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division list.
The Lady Acorns (15-2-1 overall, 11-2-1 BVAL) came away with three special recognition awards, and two first- and second-team merits. The team’s seven accolades were the second most only to division champion Willow Glen’s eight.
A year after being named division Sophomore of the Year, midfielder/forward Fabiola Diaz was honored as Junior of the Year, highlighting a team-best 14-goal season. Teammate Amanda Morgan joined Oak Grove’s Kelly Skelton as a co-Sophomore of the Year at midfielder, and Live Oak forward Megan Rauschnot was named Freshman of the Year. Morgan and Rauschnot also made the second team.
Senior Julia Hartl and freshman Sam Riolo — part of an Acorns back field that delivered nine shutouts — earned first-team honors.
Sobrato was represented on the all-BVAL Mount Hamilton Division list by seniors Lindsay Van Keulen and Kayla Nishimatsu. Van Keulen, who played every position but goalie, earned first-team honors, and Nishimatsu was named a second-team midfielder.
Boys soccer
Forward Thomas Torres of the Sobrato boy’s soccer team was named to the first-team all-Santa Teresa Division list following a senior season in which he totaled 44 points.
Torres led the Bulldogs in every major offensive category. He dished 10 assists and scored 17 goals on 57 shots. He helped guide his team a 9-9-2 record, including a 6-7-1 finish in league play.
Torres was one of three Bulldogs who were honored. Junior midfielder Dylan Serrano made the all-league second team, and rookie defenseman Shawn Henner was named division Freshman of the Year.
The Live Oak boy’s soccer team earned a pair of all-Santa Teresa nods — both going to the team’s senior defensemen. Rafael Baca made the first team; and Nick Ellis the second team.
