MORGAN HILL — The boy’s and girl’s basketball teams from Live Oak and Sobrato produced nine first- or second-team all-leaguers this winter, as voted by Blossom Valley Athletic League coaches.

The Sobrato boy’s basketball squad led the way with four honorees, including three juniors: Ryan Williams, and brothers Chris and Bryan Bradley. Williams, a 6-foot-3 forward who led the team in scoring with 17.8 points and five rebounds per game, joined Chris shooting guard Bradley (11.3 ppg) on the first-team all-Santa Teresa Division list. Bryan Bradley (8.3) was named to the second team along with senior point guard Rauley Cambra (7.2).

Behind them, the Bulldogs placed third in the Santa Teresa and earned an at-large bid to the CIF-Central Coast Section Division II playoffs.

“It was a successful season for us,” Sobrato coach Lawrence Crawford said. “We had great senior leadership, and a lot of younger guys stepped up. We still have the majority of our team coming back. So expectations will be higher next year.”

Live Oak, which missed the Division III boys tournament by a few points, received two all-league nods. Junior Michael Schreiber (11.7) made the first-team all-West Valley Division list at guard, and junior forward Dominic Leach, who averaged 7.3 points and five rebounds, was a second-team selection.

“Michael and Dominic exceeded a lot of expectations and showed a lot about how they can play,” Acorns coach Vince Pacheco said. “I have high goals for them next year in leading this team.”

On the girl’s side, Sobrato guards Melissa Cachopo and Sarina Santiago earned second-team honors after leading the Bulldogs to fifth place in the Mount Hamilton Division.

Cachopo missed part of the season with injury, but still averaged 8.7 points and 4.3 assists. Santiago, a senior, worked her way into the starting lineup midway through the year and finished her prep career with 8.6 points and two steals per game.

Sobrato reached the second round of the Division II playoffs, the furthest of any Morgan Hill prep team this winter.

“I was stoked for Sarina, being a senior. She really stepped up big this year,” Bulldogs coach Natalie Bobuk said. “Melissa was solid every game.”

Live Oak senior Sarah Mesa, who led her team in scoring (8.6 ppg) and 3-pointers (29), made the second-team all-West Valley Division list at guard.

“It was a difficult year for us, but Sarah kept her head up the whole time,” Acorns coach Jeff Perkins said. “She’s a true competitor.”
