Bronco scores, highlights from opening day
Yankees 8, Red Sox 7
The Yankees’ Daniel Medaglia, who scored the winning run from third base on Logan Weislak’s squeeze bunt, went 3-for-3 batting with a single, double and a walk.
Jack Affourtit singled, doubled, scored twice and pitched a scoreless sixth, seventh and eighth, as the Yankees rallied from a 6-1 deficit.
Ryan Quadros led the Red Sox with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. He doubled, singled twice, scored three runs and pitched three innings.
Giants 10, Royals 9
Domenic Zanatto struck out five in three innings, and Josh Alaniz had three hits for the Giants, who also received double and single from Travis Moulden and Zanatto.
Nationals 13, Phillies 1
Evan Dean, Troy Moorehead and Sam Aptekar pitched well for the Nationals. Brandon Sorce, Mike Williams and Ben Hagiperos added key hits.
The Phillies got solid pitching from Jesse Osuna, Zach Hughes and Ben Hughes, plus big hits from Tyler Molina and Ben Hughes.
Athletics 14, Cubs 7
Zach Riveron tripled for the Athletics, and Marcus Alipaz and Bradley Higgins added doubles.
The Athletics also received three solid innings from pitcher Hunter Kirk.
The Cubs’ Mike Porres doubled twice.
Pirates 14, Rays 1
Brandon Lozada pitched five scoreless innings, and Ethan Cox homered and singled for the Pirates. Teammate Sean Martin totaled four hits.
The Rays’ Steve Facio tripled, and Alejandro Torres and Jeremy Urdiales added singles.
