A bicyclist was struck by an SUV as he rode through a crosswalk near the Centennial Recreation Center.

About 5 p.m. Friday, Rory Tomasello, 21, rode his mother’s blue Townie cruiser bicycle through the crosswalk on W. Edmundson Avenue just west of Monterey Road.

There, a light beige Cadillac SRX heading west driven by a middle-aged woman struck him.

Sgt. Shane Palsgrove said the fault is still under investigation, but riding a bicycle through a crosswalk is illegal and, based on where the Cadillac came to rest just a foot past the sidewalk, the driver wasn’t speeding.

Tomasello went to Santa Teresa Medical Center with a possible leg injury, his mother Kathy Tomasello said.

W. Edmundson was closed at Monterey briefly after the incident.
